The "health contingency" has been updated based on tables published by Expectancy Data in the US, from the publication Healthy Life Expectancy: 2004 Tables (Shawnee Mission: Kansas), 2008, Tables 2 and 3. No comparable Canadian data exists; Statistics Canada published "Disability-free life expectancy by health region" in Health Reports, Vol. 13, No. 4, July 2002 catalogue 82-003 but probabilities that are age and gender-specific are not published in this catalogue. This contingency lowers the potential housekeeping award as it takes into account an individual's failing health in the absence of the incident; or that the person may do the chore more slowly, have more time to do it, or it is a hobby.

November 30, 2005
Question 9 of the input form was modified to ask the user for the actual year in which the condition improves rather than the number of years.  Since the application of the improvement occurs on January 1st of any given year, this will eliminate any ambiguity as to when the actual improvement occurs.  The "Sensitivity" button has been renamed to "Revise Inputs & Recalculate".

The "present value (cumulative)" column allows the user to truncate the future loss at any age.

July 30, 2003
The "health contingency" data has been updated from 1997 to 2000 (the most recent available). This contingency is included to reflect the possibility that the plaintiff or decedent may not have been able to perform various chores in any event, or would have ceased doing heavy cleaning as s/he aged. This contingency decreases potential compensation by -20% to -35% as the plaintiff / decedent ages.

May 13, 2003
The housekeeping rates for each province have been updated to reflect statistical research in 2003 as well as recent replacement rates reported in Quicklaw cases for each province.

Methodological working papers have been added explaining the calculation of housekeeping damages in civil litigation. These include 2 published papers by C. Brown in the Advocates' Quarterly as well as a paper presentation on behalf of the Canadian Institute conference in December 2002.

The inflation rate forecast has been updated from 1.68% to 2.00% per year for the present value calculations.

April 15, 2002

April 15, 2002
The Housekeeping Damages Calculator now provides a sensitivity analysis, at no extra charge, which allows the user to vary either the hours lost or the hourly replacement rate after the initial estimate is calculated. The sensitivity analysis also shows the percentage impact compared to the previous estimate.

To access the sensitivity analysis, a user must pay for an on-line housekeeping loss estimate in order to find out how a change in the hours or rates effects the analysis.
